Scarlett & Her Toes...and Trier. :)

Well, Joe's parents are visiting and we are having a blast!

We went and visited Trier, Germany, which is the oldest city in Germany. It is located on the border between Germany and France. It was founded in 16 B.C. and was ruled by the Romans for many years, and the ruins still exist today. It is a beautiful city --with a grand gate to the city "Porta Nigra" and holds the tunic that was believed to be worn by Jesus while he was on earth --not the Shroud of Turin, which is in Rome (located in the Cathedral of Trier).

Joe was able to get some of the pictures on his camera.. I'll post the few pictures that we got.

Front side of Porta Nigra, outside the Old City.

Back side of Porta Nigra, the City side.

Back side of Potra Nigra, the City side.

The next set of pictures is of the Cathedral of Trier, where the tunic is preserved. However, the tunic is locked until 2012 due to the age of the fabric, to prevent deterioration. Joe and I have talked about going back in 2012, and if we do, we'll be sure to get some pictures of the Tunic...

The front of the church, where the Tunic is located.

The ceiling over the back dome of the Sanctuary --all carved sculptures out of marble.

These are the organ pipes, located on the side of the Sanctuary. The bottom of the pipes are covered in carved marble --look close, kind of hard to see in this picture.

This is the ceiling over the area where the Tunic is stored, which is behind the Altar. Very, very ornate ceiling, FULL of detail.

These are the doors which guard the Tunic, only until 2012.

This is a picture of the holding box (left) and the Tunic (right) found in a tourist guide to the City.

And totally unrelated to Trier, but just as wonderful and cute-er, is Scarlett. :)

We have taken another video, but this time, she is discovering her toes for the first time. It was a Saturday morning and she seemed overly excited about this new discovery... Joe was able to catch it on video. Again, the volume isn't very loud, but if you're patient and listen very close, you should be able to hear her little conversation that she and I (alyson) had.

Its rather cute, but, as Gina said, "I'm not biased." --Of course not! I'm just mommy.

Enjoy!
Hugs to all from across the pond.
